Luther analysis

Camera- Shallow focus on Ian when Luther has a gun to his head to show that all of the power is in Luther hands. This is like the stereotype that younger people have the power and are more dangerous than elder middle aged people.

When Alice comes in to save Luther at the end of the clip the camera gains focus and stops shaking and this shows that she is bringing peace and control to the situation which again shows that the younger people are filling the stereotype of being in control over elder people. This is a counter stereotype because she is a women and she is saving the man and this is not seen as the norm.

When Ian stabs Luther they use a canted angle and point of view shot which shows that Ian is in control which is a binary opposite because the opposite is happening to before.

Editing- In this clip they use shot-revers-shot when one character is looking at the other who isn't in the shot, this is because one of them is always below which sows where the power is.

They used fast paced editing in this scene which is where there is loads of shots and angles shown one after each other and this is to show that everything is moving fast and that the tension is high and every small movement is picked up because they are twitchy and this, when Alice comes in to the scene the shots slow upland this is a counter stereotype because she brings peace and control to the situation.

Sound- They use synchronous sound when Luther has the gun to Ian's head because he is head and is quivering, they also use it when Luther gets stabbed he is stuttering which shows that he is scared and in pain and this is a counter stereotype that older people are more powerful and dangerous than younger people.

They also use synchronous sound when Alice actually shoots Ian and this is a counter stereotype because we always associate murders with men but she has just shot him in cold blood.

They use asynchronous sound when the tension is high between Luther and Ian when they introduce Alice to the situation because we don't expect it and this is a stereotype because we don't expect a woman in a dangerous situation or to be dangerous which she is so it is a counter stereotype.

They use music because it builds tension and it adds tension to the scene because the music gets louder and this is making you think that it is coming to the end, in this case the end of Ian's life but then the music goes back down when Allison comes back as she restores peace and calmness.

Mise-en scene- They are wearing suits because this is the stereotypical powerful man in London and when alice comes in she she is wearing black smart clothes which is a counter stereotype because she is portraying a powerful person in London and because she is a woman this is against the norm.

They use a gun as a prom to show where the power is and alice has it which is a counter stereotype because in a room of 2 men and 1 woman they would expect the men to have the power.

Music Video

This music video has girls in leotards which are very provocative and they are all dancing but in a very sexy way. It includes a lot of tweaking and squatting.

A gaze is how an audience views the people presented. A male gaze is how men look at women, how women look at themselves and own other women look at each other.

In this the men will be looking at females and how they dress and associating them as sexy or sexualised manor. This is mainly because of the lack of clothing they are wearing and to a heterosexual man the less the better in most cases. The women are admired for their physical appearance.

Most of the shots in the music video are taken from a low point of view to focus on one thing. This is using either a point of view camera view or steadicam.

The whole through the music video they perform moves which makes their bum's stick and they do it slowly to draw their eye to the attention. They also perform the actions in slow motions because this is like performing sexual acts.

There are times in the music video when we get close up shots of many different areas which are used to attract the attention of the audience.
Image result for call on me

This is an aerial shot which is on top and this is used so that you get a whole body view and the women's head is tilted backwards which shows her breasts which draws the audience's attention.

There a parts in it where the dancers close there eyes and have their moths open slightly which is trying to show that they are orgasming or taking part in a sexual act which is just for the audience.

There is another bit where they hold their hips and thrust to imitate a sexual act.
Image result for call on me

The whole time through the video they are rubbing their hands up and down their body which shows that they are trying to show someone is feeling them up which attracts the audiences attention.
Image result for call on me

There is a point where one of them towel's themselves down and this is performed slowly and seductively which is trying to lure the audience in.

The actors all have like facial expressions and heavy breathing to show as if they were having sex to create an image in the head then she brushes the towel over her private area to draw the men's attention there and create another image in their head.

They then hold their bum why they bend over and slap it which is to draw the audiences attention there and too imitate that someone is doing it too them.

The dancers bite their lip a lot to try and show that the actors are all interested and trying to cause sexual imagery in the mind.

Then at the end the only guy in their and the teacher of the class come together and get pretty close to show that they are into each other and show maybe why the man is there.

Our Girl

Camera is hand held because it is shaking point of view want to imagine through the eyes of a soldier.

Steadicam- When the car goes fast past the side streets.

Fast paced editing 4 shots quickly first the 2 passengers, close up of soldier, gunshot and blood on winder screen.

3 fast paced shots again being shot, terrorists, then through the winder screen.

The soldiers slump which shows death.

They wear black clothes to look scary like alchaida, they are the antagonist.

Tension building music, in the background used when the terrorists are walking towards the van, getting louder the closer he gets.

He looking at her dog tags which shows narrative.

Hand- held camera to show she is scared and disorientated because it is shaking and moving round and round and out of focus.

Every little detail is included like checking soldiers opening side doors and this is all to build tension up to when they open the boot and fine her.

The terrorist just shots when he see's Georgie because that is a narrative of them being scary.

Tracking shots across her when being dragged from the ambulance to pick up truck which is out of focus which shows she doesn't know what is happening and she is confused and being ragged about but then it goes to Apu and it is in focus because he is in control.

Point of view shot he is climbing in to the truck and its like your looking through his eyes and she is looking up which shows he is in control.

The music builds up to a crescendo (peak) it levels out and there is tyre screech to show they are in a rush.

Ariel shot- To show distance because she is lost/ being taken away.

Point of view- when looping in the eyes of the terrorists.

Apu is the only one to wear black which shows he is the leader.

Khaki in the background which shows where they are in the world.

Tense music still there when looking in each others eyes.

The pitch of her voice shows desperation now that she is on her own.

No sound apart from her moving so is shows she is isolated/ on her own.

She is being captured by men who are stronger and how she is alone which is a stereotype of women.

In the start the army doll has a broken arm which she fixes so it shows she has always wanted to be an army medic/ doctor.

Our Girl

Our Girl

Gender stereotype is represented in the drama because the title is "our girl" which shows she is juxtaposition so she doesn't get a name. She is also in the army which is a counter stereotype because she is going against the stereotype than women shouldn't be in the army. She is a medic which is a stereotype because women tend to be medics and shows she isn't strong enough to be a normal soldier.

She gets ragged about which shows that she is a woman and they can treat them how they want and they are weak and light. She isn't allowed to ask questions which is because they believe women are less than men. One of the main Kenyan soldiers believes that white girls are vulnerable and worthy. She is referred too as a primary. The Kenyan soldiers don't know she is a soldier and this is because they presume she isn't because she is a woman.

They say that one white women is 1000 kids so it is saying she is worth 1000 kids. He uses Muslims as the terrorists which is stereotypical. But Apu is a white converted Muslim extremist which is a counter stereotype. He uses Muslims as a stereotype of being crushed when he says they are being crushed. Another way that extremist views were represented was because all of the terrorists were black and because Kenya is a black majority country, but one of the leaders is white which is a counter stereotype because it shows that not all terrorists are black and not everyone black in the country is a terrorist it is black people too.

In the film JJ Abrams tried to use as many old special effects as he could at every opportunity. The team had to go and learn all the techniques used in the original film so he could re connect both of the films. They used as much in camera as they could which cost the film a lot of money on expensive sets  as they didn't used green screen but matte sets instead. JJ Abrams said he wanted to do as much practical as he could.

Problems with the film. Samuel L. Jackson who played Mace Windu said "I think the kids need to go to lightsaber fight school first... They have time to improve" The characters had more aggression than their elders. In JJ Abrams opinion he said that his characters were more about emotion. Most if not all of the characters had 0 training of skill with a lightsaber which caused them to need training.
