Representation of age in Humans

The guy in the clip which is being talked about is called George Millican and he suffers from memory loss which is the first way of showering the representation of age. This is a stereotype of older people that they have bad memory. This is represented through Mise-en-scene. Another way Mise-en-scene shows the representation of age is because when he is counting the pills the sound of them is really loud which is emphasising there is so many and that is another stereotype of elder people because they have a lot of medication. Also a stereotype of elder people is getting annoyed at small things and when the door bell rings he drops his pills which shows he is weak and old but also that he is annoyed, these are both stereotypes of old people.

Downtown Abbey

Camera- They use point of view shot when speaking to the lady about the telegram which shows that the man... They also use establishing shot which is when they use a shot of the set or setting to set the scene. In this case it is a shot of the building which shows the status of the family and shows they upper class and wealthy. This is a juxtaposition to inside though because they have all of the workers walking round in scruffy clothes. They use a hand held camera when the lad is on a bike because he is late and the shake of the camera is him rushing and being scared and this shows his little power because if one of the lady's or lords was late they wouldn't panic because people work round them. They use low angle view when the Lord is walking down the stairs to show his power because it showing we and everyone else is under him and this shows the workers class in society.

Sound- They use diegetic sound, the workers have a common voice which shows their class in society where as the family have a proper English language and this shows their class in society and their status over their workers. Synchronous sound is used to show status because when the bells ring all of workers jump up and start working and stop doing what they are doing for themselves, this is because they work around the other people which shows who has the power. Non diegetic sound is used when the workers are speaking but their face isn't in the picture isn't in the screen which shows to the audience that their voice/ opinion isn't wanted/ viewed because when the Lord and Lady speak their face is always in the shot which shows they have the power and the workers aren't brushed aside and aren't listened too which shows their place in society.

Editing- Fast paced editing is used too show the rush the workers are under when the bell rings because they are all lower in the pecking order so they have to work to the speed of their master. On the other hand they use slow motion when the Lord is walking down the stairs to emphasise his importance and to show that he has the power. They use continuity editing because the camera is always on someone important and rarely on the workers which shows that he is more important, where as the workers are brushed aside and forgot about, they aren't meant to be seen or heard they don't have an opinion, they are just their to serve. Shallow focus is used when the woman is behind the man after he told her about the telegram, this is because time has stopped and they are thinking about what to do which is a counter stereotype because the powerful people are meant to have an idea/ explanation for everything but they didn't know what to do.

Mise-en-scene- The costumes that the characters wear is a big example of showing class and status because all of the workers are wearing scruffy old clothes and the Lord and Lady are wearing suits and posh clothes which shows who has the power, money and a higher class status. The lighting in the clip is an example of class because all of the workers are downstairs and the lighting is very low which shows they are in the dark and have no power but upstairs they have lots of light and shows they are bright and they have lots of power. Talking about being downstairs the layout of the set shows power because the important people are upstairs and the workers are downstairs which shows they are lower than the people upstairs.
